BOX 471
Planning Division
Boulder, Co 80306
RE: Dowe Flats Proposal Docket #SU-93-14 & 15
Dear Bob:
Boulder District
Q1n Le(t Hand Canyon Drive
Boulder. C'.olnrado xILiO?
~'-'~= 2 5 i:i9.i
L ".~+n ~?~F h~~T
I write this letter in regard to a fact sheet I recently received regarding
the Dowe Flats Project.
I generally support the project due to several factors that were outlined
in the fact sheet.
My primary concern is the reclamation plan and its implementation. If this
is indeed a model plan for reclamation activities for this type of mining,
and is implemented to specifications and as per the requirements of Federal
State and local laws and ordinances, I support the project.
The Colorado State Forest Service began working with Southwestern Portland
Cement several years ago to establish shelterbelts and wildlife habitat
plantings on their property. I hope to continue this effort with John Lohr
and the people at the plant.
On one hand, it would be nice not to disturb the county's natural resources
with mining activities, but I believe that if done properly and with a good
check and balance system, such land use is both necessary and proper
considering the growth and need for such material in the Boulder County
area.
Please feel free to call my office for any questions, comments or
additional input you many need regarding this project.
Sincerely,
r
~~ ~~-
Craig Johe$-
District Forester
/~
