5. When was the maooina of sorinos and seeps accomplished? Have
RESPONSE:
• The mapping for springs and seeps originally was completed during the
summer of 1984. None were identified during this time; however, some
amount of water was coming from the old underground coal mine workings
located in the permit area.
In March of 1985, another spring and seep survey was conducted. At this
time, the pipe emanating from the old underground coal mine workings was
discharging water at a rate of approximately 20 to 25 gallons per
minute. Coal Gulch was also running at this time at an estimated 1-2
cubic feet per second. Because the ground was either covered by snow or
saturated during the March 1985 visit, it was impossible to identify any
springs and seeps.
6. Page 4.05-8, Section 4.05.11 states that no discussion of
roundwater rotection is necessar because of lack of roundwater
and lack of the resence of aci -formin and toxic-formin
substances. As mentioned previous y t ese areas need to be
• re-evaluated and this section may need to be revised.
RESPONSE:
As mentioned above, Peerless Resources, Inc. believes that there is a
lack of useable groundwater within the permit area. As a result of the
lack of useable groundwater, Peerless Resources, Inc. does not believe
that any groundwater protection is necessary. In addition, during the
March 11, 1985 meeting, Peerless Resources, Inc. and the Division agreed
that there are no acid-forming or toxic-forming substances found in the
overburden or underburden material of the "A" Coal Seam.
r~
MAR n a 1986
~.oN-;~~
