4.05.12 Protection of Groundwater Recharge Caoaci
• The reclamation plan, as described in Section 2.05.4, will return the
disturbed land to approximately the pre-mining condition; therefore,
groundwater recharge capability is expected to remain essentially the
same as the pre-mining condition. Also, because of the lack of
groundwater in the permit area, the mining operation and subsequent
reclamation and sealing of the portals should have no adverse affect on
the existing groundwater recharge capabilities.
4.05.13 Surface and Groundwater Monitori
Because no groundwater has been or is expected to be encountered, no
groundwater monitoring is planned.
The planned surface water monitoring plan includes monitoring required
under an NPDES Permit to be issued by the Colorado Department of Health.
Surface water monitoring locations are shown on the Mine Facilities Map
• (Map 12). Surface water samples will be analyzed for pH, total
suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), iron, manganese,
oil and grease content, and other parameters that may be required by the
NPDES Permit. Peerless Resources will measure the quantity and quality
of any discharge from the sedimentation pond in compliance with the
NPDES Permit.
Peerless Resources will report on discharge in accordance with the Clean
Water Act of 1977 under an NPDES Permit on an annual basis; therefore,
Peerless Resources will plan to use the NPDES report for filing with the
Division.
Following the cessation of use of underground mine workings, Peerless
Resources will continue to monitor surface water flow and quality until
determined that the reclamation has met the requirements of Section
4.05, such that the disturbance has minimized any impact to the
• prevailing hydrologic balance and the post-mining land use has been
attained. Equipment, structures, and other devices necessary to measure
4.05-9
