14. Section 4.05.13 needs to be revised to reflect a surface and
water monitoring oroaram for the ife of mining.
RESPONSE:
Subsurface water encountered within the mining operation of Peerless
Resources, Inc. will be channeled to an underground sump for use in the
mining operations. In order to respond to Division concerns, Peerless
Resources, Inc. will analyze this subsurface water in the sump on a
quarterly basis for the elements listed in the Groundwater Sampling
Guidelines of the Division. If no problems are encountered after a year
of monitoring (4 quarters), Peerless Resources, Inc. will petition the
Division for reduction or elimination of this groundwater monitoring.
As mentioned in Section 4.05.13, Peerless Resources, Inc. will monitor
any discharge from the sedimentation pond as required by an NPDES
permit.
In addition, for a period of one year, Peerless Resources, Inc. will
) monitor on a quarterly basis those stations sampled during March of 1985
• and shown on the Mine Facilities Map (Map 12) and the Regional Hydrology
Map (Map 6). As with groundwater, Peerless Resources, Inc. will
petition the Division for reduction or total elimination of sampling of
these sites after 4 quarters of seasonal information have been obtained.
Because Coal Gulch is an ephemeral drainage, Peerless Resources, Inc.
only anticipates collecting water samples in this drainage during the
springtime of the year.
The applicant shall monitor the quantity of discharge from the abandoned
Uictory No. 1 portal on a monthly basis. The applicant shall sample
this discharge quarterly for the parameters listed below
Ground Water Parameters:
pH (Field) Chloride Arsenic
Conductivity (Field) Magnesium Cadmium
Temperature (Field) Ammonia Iron
Total Dissolved Solids Nitrate-Nitrite Manganese
Bicarbonate (as CaCo3) Phosphate Mercury
Calcium Sodium Selenium
• Carbonate Sulfate Zinc
... -
