• B~ks and Gesso, LLC
Topsoil will be spread evenly over all exposed, disturbed areas for plant-growth
medium. The required amount of topsoil to be used as plant-growth medium will
always be maintained onsite to ensure proper reclamation. Typical topsoil berm
locations can be seen on the Exhibit C-3, Mining Plan Map.
Topsoil stockpiles will be temporarily revegetated for protection from
disturbances associated with the mining operation and from wind and water
erosion, compaction, and other disturbances that would reduce its capability to
support permanent vegetation. The stockpiles will be broadcast seeded with a
temporary cover when stockpiles will remain in place for more than one growing
season and will be constructed with a maximum 2:1 slope.
' Backfill generated on site will include waste concrete that has cured for at least
six weeks, silts and clays from the washing operation, and non-marketable fine
material. Inert fill from off-site may also be brought on site for use as backfill.
This material could include concrete fragments, rock, and soil and will be
inspected for suitability before acceptance to the site. These backfill materials
will be placed along the slopes of the mining cells as they are reclaimed to a 3 to
1 slope.
The backfill component of reclamation will be concurrent with mining once the
near-vertical pit slopes of the outer mining limits are reached. Backfilling of areas
in Cell 2 will employ the use of settling fines from processing of on-site materials,
as well as overburden materials from the northwest comer. The final grade of
the backfilled areas will be graded at 1-2% toward the ponds and wetland
ditches. Exhibit F, the Reclamation Plan Map, shows areas back-filled with
settling fines, as well as mitigated wetland areas.
Topsoil Placement
After final grading and backfilling operations are complete, approximately 6
inches of topsoil will be placed on all disturbed areas.
