• B~s and Gesso, LLC
Topsoil Segregation, Preservation, and Replacement
Temporary berms containing stockpiled topsoils will act as visual screening over
the life of the mine and are strategically located on the permit site to facilitate
easy access for reclamation. Temporary revegetation of topsoil stockpiles wil{
occur if a stockpile is left undisturbed for more than one growing season and will
be maintained until the topsoil is reused in the reclamation process.
Final Grades
There will be a large amount of excess overburden obtained from the affected
areas of this mining permit. With topsoil thickness of approximately six inches,
overburden depth averages 5.7 ft. over the 68.7-acre area to be stripped and
excavated. The pre-mining process will salvage approximately 630,000 cubic
yards of overburden during the mining process. Processing fines from on-site
materials will generate another 125,000 cubic yards of fill. Combined overburden
and processing fines available to backfill Cell 1 and part of Cell 2 to near-grade
(ready for topsoil) totals 755,000 cubic yards. Approximately 514,000 CY of
material is needed to backfill the slopes of the mined areas to 3:1 or shallower
slopes, and another 78,000 CY is needed to backfill the northwest corner for
future commercial use.
Approximately 50,000 CY of topsoil will be salvaged during the pre-mining
process. Topsoil application will consist of approximately six inches and cover all
areas of disturbance. The acreage of disturbed areas equals 33.2 acres (24.4
disturbed, plus 8.8 slope). The quantity of topsoil required as plant-growth
medium for the total 33.2 disturbed surface acres (including halfway down the
backfilled slopes), at a depth of 6 inches, will be approximately 27,000 cubic
yards. This leaves approximately 23,000 CY of topsoil in excess of the
reclamation requirements. Exhibit F, the Reclamation Plan Map, shows the
typical 3H:1 V slopes that will be created by final reclamation of the mining site.
GreeNCrofssant Property Sand and Gravel Mine.CDMG.112 Perrnd 20023
Loveland Ready Mix Concrete, Inc. 14 March 2001
