for retention of topsoil and maintenance of vegetation. These
areas will be stabilized to ensure safety of livestock and
personnel.
Areas such as pipeline rights-of-way which will not be disturbed
upon abandonment will be reclaimed on a permanent basis following
construction by revegetation or other methods suitable to the
terrain involved.
The schedule for the reclamation effort on the Dow West property
is presented in Table E-1 while the schedule for the two Grand
Valley facilities is presented in Table E-2. Topsoil removal
and replacement plans for the Dow west property are shown in
Figures E-1 and E-2. The topsoil removal and replacement plans
for the terminal facilities and water intake facility are shown
in Figures E-3, E-4, and E-5 and E-6 respectively. These figures
indicate that plant sites will be temporarily reclaimed immediately
. after construction is completed and that permanent reclamation
will not commence until mining and retorting operations cease.
DISPOSAL AREA
Topsoil placement, and permanent revegetation will be conducted
annually as the face of the processed shale embankment is completed
and will follow the procedures described in the Site Specific
Reclamation and Abandonment Procedures Section. Figures D-1, D-2
and D-3 show the three-phased processed shale emplacement on the
disposal areas. Refuse emplacement procedures are discussed in
Exhibit D. Timing of the reclamation of the refuse areas is di-
rectly dependent on the rate of deposition, the amount of refuse
generated and the seasonality of topsoil stripping operations.
These factors have been used to develop the topsoil removal and
stockpile plan shown in Figure E-1.
E-10
