South Fan
Final contours for the South Fan area will be approximately the original
contours shown on Exhibit SL-16-009, Tab 13. The borrow area shown
on Exhibit SL-16-009 will be used as necessary to backfill the shaft. The
borrow area will be graded to blend in with exiting contours. After salvage
operations, the remaining concrete shaft collar and structural foundations
will be broken up and pushed into the shaft. The shaft will be backfilled to
within approximately 5' feet of the surface and the shaft sealed with a
concrete plug approximately 5' thick. The fan bench will be backfilled with
material filled on the outside edge of the bench and with material from the
two overburden stockpiles nearby. The most suitable plant growth
material will be placed on the fill last and amended as necessary to
promote revegetation. The portion of Access Road 3 leading into the fan
site will be eliminated by grading it to match the adjacent topography. Silt
fences will be utilized as alternative sediment control and placed as
shown on Exhibit SL-16-009
2 West Portals
• The final contours for the, 2 West Portal area are shown on Exhibit 58,
Tab 13. The rock and soil salvaged at the two 2 West Portals will be used
to backfill these areas. The steep cut slope on a section of the road
between the two portals will be flattened. This will be accomplished by
cutting the slope back about 10-feet into undisturbed ground. Due to the
volume of coal removed during construction, the final contours will be an
average of 2' lower than the original contours. The material will be graded
to eliminate highwalls and to create a smooth transition with the adjacent,
unaffected areas. The drainage channel relocation near the North portal
will be permanent. Boulders will be placed between the permanent
channel and the portal fill. The five culverts shown on Map 58 will be
removed from the 2 west portal light use road. Low water crossing are to
be installed
During backfilling of the 2 West portals, including the substation, the most
suitable plant growth material will be placed on the fill last and amended
as necessary to promote revegetation. Silt fences will be utilized as
alternative sediment control and placed as shown on Exhibit 58.
• 14-12 (Rev. 9/00)
