Benson Brothers Pig Mesa Pit
DMG 112 Application
Exhibit E- Reclamation Plan
Material handled on site will not create an unauthorized release of pollutants to the
surface drainage system. A Stormwater Dischazge Permit for Gravel Mines will be
obtained from the Colorado Department of Health.
No Pollutants will be dischazged to groundwater on this site.
3.1.6 This is a dry pit. There will be no disturbance to the prevailing hydrologic balance.
There aze no wetlands on this site. Topsoil and overburden stockpiles and berms will
be stabilized by broadcasting with a grass seed mix as recommended by the Natural
Resources Conservation Service, Delta Office. A Stormwater Discharge Permit for
Gravel Mines will be obtained from the Colorado Depaztment of Health. There will be
no dischazge of process water used in aggregate washing from this site.
3.1.7 We will not encounter any groundwater on this site.
3.1.8 There is very little evidence of any wildlife on this site. There aze no trees or shrubs or
any cover or feed for wildlife except reptiles, small rodents, and insects adapted to
desert environments.
3.1.9 Topsoil will be removed and stockpiled in the process and stockpile azea and protected
from erosion by broadcasting with 28 lbs/acre of Tall Wheatgrass and Tall Fescue after
October 15 as recommended by the NRCS Delta Office.
We do not expect to have to move the topsoil stockpiles until it is used in reclamation.
Topsoil will be replaced 3:1 slopes and on relatively flat sloping pit floor and
compacted with the placing equipment. These soils aze of poor quality and currently
support little vegetation which is one reason the reclamation plan does not include re-
vegetation.
Topsoil will be replaced at 4 to 8 inches.
3.1.10 Re-vegetation is not a part of this reclamation plan.
Spraying according to an approved Delta County Weed Mitigation Plan will control
weeds.
3.1.11 There aze no buildings or structures on this site and there aze no structures planned in
conjunction with this operation.
3.1.12 The operator will post the required sign at the entrance to the mine.
The boundaries of the affected azea will be delineated by existing fences or steel mazker
posts before mining begins.
d) Overburden will be used to create the process and stockpile azea by cutting and filling the shale
ridges and gullies on the northeast flank of the mesa. It will be stabilized by compaction with
the moving equipment. Excess topsoil and overburden will then be removed and stockpiled in
a berm along the northeast edge of the process azea, which will also serve as a sight and sound
barrier for the operation. Topsoil stockpiles will be stabilized by broadcasting the seed mix as
described in 3.1.9 above. Overburden will be accessible for backfilling and final grading as
needed. The topsoil will be spread after final grading of overburden. Re-vegetation is not part
of this reclamation plan.
e) Reclamation if this site will consist of reducing high-walls to 3:1 (h:v) and maintaining the pit
floor at or neaz final grade as mining progresses. The high-walls on the northwest perimeter
will be sloped as the mining east to west is completed and mining begins to move north to
south. High walls on the east and west will be reduced to 3:1 slopes concurrently as mining
moves to the south. A maximum of 1200 feet of un-reduced high wall will exist at any one
time. Topsoil will be replaced on 3:1 slopes as soon as the final slope is created. Topsoil will
