Page 2
INVENTORY METHODS
Pedestrian and vehicular surveys of permanently reclaimed areas
were conducted to inventory erosion features. Individual features
and entire sites were evaluated as outlined in Section 4.3. The
existing condition of the single concentrated flow feature,
identified in the 1992 report in the South of Shop Area, was
documented using method (1) ("Cross-Section Survey") outlined in
Permit No. C-80-001 on page 4.3-19. This method was chosen
to determine the rate of degradation or agradation within this
reach over time.
To evaluate the overall erosion condition of various reclaimed
areas, the Hureau of Land Management's Erosion Condition
Classification System described in Technical Note No. 346 was
utilized. This method considers both sheet, and rill and gully
erosion, and documents the overall erosion condition of a given
site. This method is described in detail in Permit No. C-80-001,
Appendix 4.3-B.
MONITORING INFORMATION
Moffat Area
Four areas were classified in the current reclaimed area at the
southern end of the Moffat Area in 5 separate surveys. Please
reference Exhibit 4 of the 1993 Annual Reclamation Report for
locations of these areas. Block 1 was separated into two survey
areas. The first being the southernmost section of the block.
Block 1 is live handled topsoil that will not receive additional
seeding as a test block for live handling roto-cleared topsoil for
reintroduction of native plant species. Block 2 is also at the
southern end of the Moffat reserve. This area is live handled
topsoil that was seeded in the spring of 1993. Block 3 was not
classified during the fall survey because topsoil replacement was
not yet completed at the time of the survey. This block is live
handled topsoil that will be seeded in the spring of 1994. The
area was examined in March of this year and had no major flow
features. This block will begin formal surveying in the fall of
1994. Block 4 was topsoiled in 1993 and will not have additional
seed applied as a continuation of the study area started with Block
1. Block 5 is live handled topsoil area that will have the
approved reclamation seed mix applied in the spring of 1994. At
the time of the fall survey this was a very newly topsoiled area.
Block 6 was not included in the fall survey, again because the
topsoil was not placed until later in the fall. This area is live
handled topsoil that will be seeded in the spring of 1994. The
spring examination of this area showed no concentrated flow
4/18/94 DLB
