,~
3
VI. Hydrologic Balance: Ground FJater (2.04.5, 2.04.7, 2.05.3(4), 2.05.6(3), 4.05)
The following problems were identified in the review and have been partially
or fully resolved:
1 - The spring location map in the original permit application, Exhibit
2.8.1.8 was illegible. Also, those springs which are perennial were
not differentiated from those springs which are ephemeral. The applicant
submitted a new spring location map, Exhibit 2.8.1.U, which clearly show
topography and the location of perennial and ephemeral springs.
2 - The applicant was requested to submit to the Division a map of the permit
and adjacent areas which was to have the locations of a21 springs super-
imposed on a map of known landslides, rockfalls, and lineaments. The
applicant supplied this map as Exhibit 2.8.1. V, Spring location versus
Topography, Landslides, Rock Fa11s, and Lineaments. The applicant was
requested to produce a table keyed to the above map and a discussion
of the occurance and source of water flowing in springs in the permit
and adjacent areas. This material was submitted a5 Table 2.8.I.V,
Springs in and Around Five Year Mine Plan, Mt. Gunnison and as ammended
pages 2-252 to 2-255b within the permit application. Finally the
applicant was requested to field check the data presented on the above
map and table once the weather was suitable for field work. To date the
field survey of springs has not been submitted to the Division. The
above information was requested to establish a baseline on source,
occurance, and flow rates of springs. In the event that impacts occur
on the spring flows (i.e. reduction or cessation), the applicant will be
able to determine what type of springs are being effected by mining. This
information then could be used to more accurately predict the consequences
of mining on spring flora in subsequent permit areas within the mine plan.
The following stipulation is required of the applicant in order that the
above study be completed and the data reported to the Division in a timely
manner.
~Stipula ti on: THE APPLICANT SHALL CONDUCT A FIELD SURVEY OF ALL SPRINGS
BETfJEEN THE DRY FORK OF MINNESOTA CREEK AND THE NORTH FORK OF THE GUNNISON
TO CONFIRM SOURCES OF SPRING DISCHARGES ( I.E. FAULTS, FRACTURES, LAND-
SLIDES, ROCK FALLS, AND BEDDING CONTACTS) AND THE GEOLOGIC UNITS FROM
f•7HICH THEY EM1IANATE. THE APPLICANT SHALL PREPARE AND SUBPI7T TO THE DIVISION
A REPORT h77TH AnnnOP3IA TE :MAPS, ~`J`?:BL::S, ~ AND DISCUSSION WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF •THE
PERMIT ISSUING FOR INCLUSION 6JITHIN THE PERMIT APPLICATION.
3 - The direction and gradient of ground water flow within the F-seam and the
Barren Member of the Mesa Verda Formation were not mapped or included within
the permit application. Since ground water in these strata will potentially be
impacted, the applicant was requested to produce a water level countour map
usinc water 1e•.-els in the Barren .'.'ember moniterino wells ar~d elevations of
s __ s _,-. ~ e Barren :!e::~er.
