In response to a request by the CROW, American Soda will construct the
project pipeline on the east side of the existing pipeline corridor for at least
2 miles on either side of the known active sage grouse lek on Barnes
Ridge. To enhance sage grouse habitat, shrub and fort species !mown to be
beneficial to sage grouse may be included in the pipeline corridor
revegetation seed mixture within the Sage Grouse Treatment Area (see
Section 3.4.2).
Construction timing limitations will be in effect within the Sage Grouse
Treatment Area to protect sage grouse breeding and nesting activities.
Ground-disturbing pipeline construction activities within 2 miles of
known active sage grouse leks on or neaz Barnes Ridge would be
scheduled to avoid the critical activity period (from Mazch 1 through July
1). This includes the entire Sage Grouse Treatment Area of the pipeline
corridor. However, the CDOW and the BLM have agreed that unlimited
access along Sprague Gulch Road would be allowed. Preferably, all project
traffic would use the Sprague Gulch Road access. Certain low-intensity
activities (e.g., surveying) may lie allowed within the Sage Grouse
Treatment Area during the April 1 through June 1 period, subject to the
written conditions and approval of the BLM in coordination with .the
CDOW.
3.24 Visual Screening
• Approximately 12 miles of the proposed pipeline corridor are visible from public
roads. The additional pipeline corridor will not substantially change the visual
impression along most of the corridor. However, American Soda may reduce
visual impacts using techniques such as slope restoration, selective clearing of
adjacent trees to reduce contrast, mulch/native seed planting, and matching
slope protection fabric with the native soil color, if required by the BLM. The
technique of selective clearing could be used on specific portions of the project if
requested by private landowners.
3.25 Weed Management
To prevent the introduction of noxious weeds into the disturbed azeas, all
construction equipment will be thoroughly cleaned before entering the project
azea. Parts of the construction equipment that are in contact with the soil (blades,
buckets, crawler tracks, tires, etc.) will be washed or otherwise cleaned of all soil.
Construction equipment will also be washed or otherwise cleaned, of all soil after
having been used in azeas with identified noxious weeds.
Noxious weed locations will be surveyed prior to construction, and azeas with
noxious weeds will be treated prior to rnnstruction. No aerial spraying will occur
within the Sage Grouse Treatment Area in order to minimise potential impacts
. on desirable (orbs and shrubs preferred by sage grouse:
Pipetaie Plan of Development 19
Yankee Gulch Sodium Minerak P~vject
Amman soda.
