.,
~~
Plan for Augmentation
s
The North Forktof the Gunniso}~iis ver a~lpr~pri~ed to the Paonia Ditch,
located just upstream. of the two pits whioiytt, subject o8thisapplication. The North Fork
of the Gunnison is not considered over appropriated downstream of the Paonia Ditch,
however, the mainstem of the Gunnison is considered potentially Over appropriated during the
months of September through April. Since miriing may occur anytime during the year at the
Paonia # 4-D Gravel Pit and evaporative depletions occur year round, a Plan for Augmentation
has been developed.
Deoletions
Evaporative depletions will occur from the exposed water surface area of the gravel
pits. There will also be depletions incurred from~moisture loss associated with the gravel
mining and dust suppression.
Annual evaporative depletions at the:Eaonia No.3 Gravel Pit aze calculated to be 2.24
acre feet. During the potential call period (September tbrough:April), evaporative depletions
are calculated to be 0.82 acre feet. Table l in Appendix B is a calculation of evaporative
losses from said structure.
Annual evaporative depletions at.the Eacy~.No. 4-D.Gra~tel:Pit aze calculated to be
10.79 acre feet. During the potential call periodt(September through April), evaporative
depletions are calculated to be 3.97 acre feet. Table 2 in Appendix B is a calculation of
evaporative losses from said structure.
It is estimated that 354,000 tons of pt~erital will be mined from the Paonia No. 4-D
Gravel Pit over the lifetime of the miningppefation. Moisture loss'will occur at said pit from
the mined material and dust suppression. att.i~estimated that the equivalent of 2% of the
weight of the mined material, or 5.24 acre feet, will be water lost to the river system during
the lifetime of the gravel mining operation.
Depletions will also result from dust suppression activities during the mining operation
of the Paonia No. 4-D Gravel Pit. It is estimated that, during gravel crushing, water will be
used for dust suppression at a rate of 15 gpm ~for4$~hotus per day for 24 days during the year.
Depletions for gravel crushing aze estimated tp be, 0.52 acre feet annually. It is also estimated
that a 4000 gallon water truck will be used ~ congol dust on the roads once a day for the
months of June through September averag3tlg~ff:B$tacre feet monthly or 1.50 acre feet
annually. -
APPLICATION FOR APPROVAL /~F ALAN FOR AUGMENTATION -PAGE 3
~.: ~
