Give full.details of plan, including a description of all
water rights to be established or changed by the plan.
Overview of Minine Operation
Applicant United Companies of Mesa County, Inc., d/b/a Delta Sand & Gravel
Company ("DS&G") owns land adjacent.to the North Fork of the Gunnison River north of the
Town of Paonia. It presently has a gravel mining operation on the property and have plans to
expand the operation by excavating a second gravel pit. Appendix A contains a topographical
map locating the existing and proposed gravel pits.
Gravel Pits and MininE Operation
D5&G owns onestructure whe~t}~eFC;,~as.previously begin a;gravel mining operation.
The previous mining.operation has been~mined Autaeaving a: grayel=pit, named the Paonia No.3
Gravel Pit, with an exposed water surface. of 0,83 acres. Subsequent to issuance of the permit
for this gravel pit, the Division of Water Resources determined'~th~„the Gunnison River is
potentially over appiopciated. DS&G :must therefore provide augmentation for the depletions
caused by the evaporativn from the Paonia,Nd:,3 Gravel Pit. Said: pit is located 700 feet from
the east section line and'1500 feet from the sout)t section line,in section 31, T13S, R91W, of
the 6`" P.M., in the SWNESE of section 31. The total annual appropriation, which is the
calculated evaporative depletion, is 2.24 acre feet.
Next to the Paonia No.3 Gravel•Pit,;DS&G will excavate a second gravel pit. This
structure, named the Paonia No. 4-D Gravel }?i4; will be located in the SENESE of Section 31,
T13S, R91W of the 6'~ P.M. The center.oEth~;gray,~l pit will be 35A feet from the east section
line and 3400 feet from the north section line in section 31. The gravel pit will be
approximately 35 feet deep with an exposed water surface area of approximately 4 acres. The
volume of the gravel pi4wi11 be approximate}}ts7~acra:feet and theannual appropriation,
which is the calculated evaporative depletion, is calculated to be 10.8 acre feet. Appendix A
contains drawings of the 4-D gravel pit.
Beneficial usesofor.both gravel pitsaie ilCidustrial, cotnmerCial, wwildlife, and stock. The
lifetime of the mining operation of the Paonia No: 4-D Gravel •Pit:is estimated to be between 5
and 10 years and is dependent upon the demand for the mined material. It is estimated tha[
354,000 tons of material will be mined during that time.
APPLICATION FOR APPROVAL QE ELAN FOR AUGMENTATION -PAGE 2
.:~, ,t-..~::- ..
