Mulches <br />Mulch shall consist of hay or straw mulch, pest-free or weed free to the <br />extent possible. Approximately 3U percent by weight of the mulch <br />material shall be ten inches (10") in length or longer. Rotted, caked, <br />decayed or moldy material will not be accepted. <br />EXECUTION <br />The CONTRACTOR shall give the PROJECT MANAGER at least two (2) days <br />notice of the time and place of starting his revegetation operations and <br />shall continue to advise as to the schedule of operations. Revegetation <br />may take place at the completion of work at an individual opening if the <br />CUNTRACTOR so desires. <br />Fertil izers <br />Immediately prior to seedbed preparation, fertilizer shall be uniformly <br />applied over the areas designated for seeding and immediately <br />incorporated into the soil by tillage methods as discussed below. <br />Commercial fertilizer shall be applied at the rate of 300 pounds per acre. <br />Seedbed Preparation <br />The seedbed shall be firm. Trash, weeds and other debris that will <br />interfere with seeding operations shall be removed or disposed of as <br />approved by the PROJECT tdANAGER. <br />On sites where equipnent can operate, the seedbed shall be adequately <br />loosened (four to six inches (4" to 6") deep) and smoothed. Chiseling, <br />discing, harrowing or cultipacking may be required. Work shall be done <br />' on the contour where practicable. <br />On sites where equipnent cannot operate, the seedbed shall be hand-raked <br />or otherwise prepared by hand by scarifying to a minimum depth of one <br />inch (1") to provide a roughened surface so that seed will stay in place. <br />Seedbed preparation shall be suspended when soil moisture conditions are <br />not suitable for the preparation of a satisfactory seedbed as determined <br />by the PROJECT MANAGER. <br />Seeding <br />The designated seed mixture type shall be drilleo uniformly on the <br />prepared areas. Seeding shall not be done if the ground is frozen. <br />Some areas, such as rock outcrops, etc., within the work limits may not <br />be designated to be seeded. <br />
