• coal exist in the currently approved mining plan areas containing
a total of 2.7 million tons of Federal coal. No Federal surface
land exists in the currently approved mining plan areas.
C. The Proposed Action
The mining plan actions consist of mining plan modifications for
Federal leases C-29125 and COC-99965. Specifically, the mining
plan actions proposed by NKC consist of:
Mining the Menefee Coal Bed 1 within 100 acres of Federal coal
lease C-29125 and within 160 acres of Federal coal lease P-
058300.
Proposed average annual production is 0.2 million tons per year,
but the maximum production rate could reach the approved 0.3
million tons per year.
The postmining land use within the mining plan modification areas
will be grazing and wildlife habitat.
With the proposed mining plan actions, the approved mining plan
• areas for the King Coal Mine would increase by 260 acres for a
new total of 862 acres of Federal coal which includes the
previously approved mining plan areas for Federal leases C-29125,
P-058300 and COC-99465. Total Federal recoverable coal reserves
for the Menefee Coal Bed 1 seams within all mining plan approval
areas at the King Coal Mine would increase by 1.5 million tons
(0.58 in Federal lease C-29125 and 0.92 in Federal lease COC-
99465) for a new total of 9.2 million tons. No Federal surface
land will be included in the proposed mining plan areas. Thus,
the mine will continue to have no Federal surface lands within
the approved mining plan areas.
The approved State permit area would increase by 260 acres from
its present 1584 acres to a new total of 1899 acres.
NKC estimates no increase in the current work force of about 58
employees to expand mining into the Menefee Coal Bed 1 seams of
Federal leases C-29125 and COC-99465.
The DMG has attached three new permit stipulations to this
permitting action and has carried-over no other stipulations.
The three new permit stipulations are as follows:

2
