_~;_
• T!:e sons :+hich will be disturbed by ehe ?roposed operation include GZendi•re
loam, Havre '_oam, Nihi11 Ioam, Ri•rra gravelly loam variant and Torriortisent-
rock outcrop complex. These soils range .from loam to sandy loam texture.
Values for pH range from i.5 Co 9.0, wit': t::e .higher value occurring below
Id inches in the Nihi11 soi l Electrical conducti•rity values were .^masured
between .4 and 4.9 amihos/cm with the higher value occurring again below I4
inches in the Nihi11 Zoam. Sodium absOrtplOn rdt_OS (SARI ranged °rom .1 to
43.5, again t:e :u gher 5.7.7 was detected in the Nihi11 loam. 3oron was measured
ranging °rom .1 to ,3 mg/Z.
Salt Creek Mining Company proposes stripping anywhere from I2 to 13 inches
of topsoi_' from disturbed areas, depending on the soil type encountered. The
steep slopes and rlsin nature of the Torriorthent soils will ?rohibit stripping
in mast cases. No topsoil will be stripped :rom areas previously disturbed.
It is projected that approximately 6 acre-Feet of topsoil will be stripped from
all areas to be disturbed. This volume wi_'1 be sufficient to replace topsoil.
over Z1 to 18 acres of disturbance to a depth of 4 to 6 inches. T.`us will
adequately topsoil most of t'se disturbance.
A port: on of t'se remaining disturbed area will be retained as a ranch road which
existed prior to the mine. In t'se areas where the :pad will be left, it will
be reduced in widt's and outslopes will 6e reclaimed.
Analyses of c':e disturbed Lands material ;save been submitted which indicate
• that the material is suitable for reclamat;on to a depth of 4 to T inches (total
depth of tf:e samplesl. Because this disturbed Land will be reclaimed as the
only too dressing in some areas and wit-' be the subsoil in all ot':er cases, a
further analusis is required to determine suitability. ?or this reason, the
following stipvlacon is required:
Stipulation .VO. 5
:/ITHIN 5 MCNTHS CF ?ERMIT ISSUANCE, THE ?ERMITTEE C4UST ?ROV_TDE THE
3EG'JL7TORY AUTHORITY ;JITH AN ANALYSIS OF T.YE FILL (DISTURBED iAND51
AND .LVY OTHER DISTURBED .~L7TER_TAL NHIC3 alit NCT'3E TOPSOIL.zD ?RIOR
TO REVEGETATION. The applicant feels this is
justified because adding the fertilizer prior to the seeding will encourage
invasion by undesirable weedy species in the reclaimed areas. The Division
concurs ~,vith this is part, however, since phosphorous is relatively immobile
and does not readily leach into the soil, it is best to incorporate it
• into the sail prior to seeding. The following stipulation is subsequently
added:
