' pipeline and during cleanup and subsequent revegetation/soil stabilization.
Proposed erosion control methods may include:
• Channel Stabilization: In smaller intermittent channels, gabion (wire
baskets filled with large cobbles and rocks) would be placed downstream of the
channel to slow scour action and trap sediment. In larger channels, a
downstream gabion structure would be installed, the eroded area backfilled, and
' another gabion structure placed upstream of the backfilled area to slow scour
action and trap sediment.
' Diversion Structures: At some locations, waterbars (earthen dams) would
be placed above the washout area to trap sediment and divert water away from
the incised channel. Areas of exposed pipe would be backfilled and compacted.
' Gabion structures would be designed to withstand expected hydraulic loading
and to avoid increased scour of the opposite bank.
' 4.0 Water Diversions: Water diversion structures will be constructed as
needed to control surface w Ater runoff and erosion. To accomplish this,
waterbars will be constructed on the contour across disturbed areas. Waterbars
' will be constructed to the size, spacing, and cross sections specified by the BLM to
divert water from all disturbed areas for at least 3 to 5 years. Waterbars will be
constructed to simulate the imaginary contour lines of the slope, to drain away
' from disturbed areas, and to continue across the ROW so that water is carried to
established vegetation whenever possible. All such structures will be
constructed according to BLM specifications. General spacing intervals shown
' for waterbars are provided in Attachment 2 -Pipeline Reclamation Plan.
' • Mulching: Site specific applications of mulch will be made to control
erosion. Mulch will be applied on highly erodible soils and in areas with slopes
greater than 15 percent. Only mulch that has been certified to be weed free will
be used. Where applied, the mulch will be spread across the ROW, temporary
use area, and laydown areas as needed. On steep slopes, hydromulching may be
appropriate.
i 3.4.2 Revegetation
' All disturbed areas will be seeded according to BLM seed mixture specifications,
where provided. Seeding will be done at the end of construction or at the next
prescribed seeding season. Seed labels from each bag shall be available for
' inspection while seeding is in progress. Certified, weed-free seed will be used
whenever possible, and, in all cases, seed will be free of primary noxious weeds.
A rangeland drill or similar device that contains disks and separate seed boxes
' will be used to apply seed.
' PipeWe Wormaoon Summary 20
YankR GWch Sodium Minerals Pro~ert
' Amencan Soda, L.L.P.
