B. Regrading
The existing East mine area topography is depicted on Exhibit 3A.
The regarded topography to be achieved by the CONTRACTOR under this
specification is shown on Exhibit 3B. Comparative cross-sections of
the existing and regraded land forms are shown on Exhibits 4A and
4B. The approximate boundaries of cut and fill areas are shown on
Exhibit 3C. Exhibit 3D provides information regarding approximate
cut and fill area cubic yard volumes. The CONTRACTOR shall regrade
the East mine area to the topographic contours shown on Exhibit 3B by
excavating material from the "cut" areas and placing the material in
the "fill" areas delineated on Exhibit 3C. The material quantities
listed on Exhibit 3D are approximations only. Actual quantities may
vary from those shown. The CONTRACTOR is solely responsible for
determining and verifying all quantity estimates and pricing bid
amounts accordingly. No additional al]owance above the price bid
will be made on account of actual quantities of material moved being
different than the quantities listed on Exhibit 3D.
As part of the mine site regrading work, the CONTRACTOR shall load
and haul 500 cubic yards of non-coal fill material from the East mine
area to the west mine area and place the material along the steep
slope at the eastern extremity of the regraded area situated
immediately south of the highway. This area is delineated on
Exhibit 7. The material shall be placed in such a manner that evenly
covers the exposed coal/coal waste material visible on the hill slope.
With the exception of the fill material placement specified in the
preceeding paragraph for the west mine area, all coal and coal waste
material placed within fill areas at the East mine or exposed in the
excavations shall be covered with a minimum of 2 feet (measured
vertically) of non-coal fill material with the regraded surface at
the final contours shown on Exhibit 3B. It may be necessary in some
portions of cut areas to excavate below the final contour line to
remove exposed coal/coal waste material and fill the exposed area
back up to final grade with non-coal fill material such that the
upper two feet of all regraded surfaces consists of non-coal fill
material only. The CONTRACTOR is solely responsible for determining
special handling requirements during regrading work and pricing bid
amounts accordingly.
C. Compaction
All fill material, both coal and non-coal, obtained from cut areas
and placed within fill areas, shall be placed in maximum 2 foot
horizontal lifts and compacted by making 4 to 6 series of staggered
passes over the entire surface of each lift with rubber tired
equipment, sheepsfoot roller(s), or other appropriate compaction
equipment. Track mounted equipment such as bulldozers or hydraulic
excavators is not considered appropriate for use in compaction work.
Compaction work is not required within the upper extremity of the
bench back fill areas where the fill width becomes too narrow for safe
compaction equipment access. The final upper 2 foot lift and other
fill area surfaces fora depth of 2 feet below grade shall be left
uncompacted.
-21-
