4.0 DISTURBED AREA REGRADING
4.1 Description
This specification covers all work required for excavation and fill necessary
to complete the regrading scheme as shown on the exhibits, for compacting fill
material, for removal and disposal of mining related materials encountered in
the excavations, for special handling of coal and coal waste material existing
on the surface and encountered in the excavations, and for ripping portions of
final regraded surfaces to alleviate surficial compaction.
4.2 Execution
A. Classification of Excavated Materials
Earth materials to be excavated from cut areas and placed within fill
areas consist of non-coal material and coal/coal waste material, The
coal material consists of the remains of the coal stockpile, coal
spillage along the ground surface beneath the coal conveyors, and
coal spillage over the embankments of the coal stockpile area. Coal
waste consists of coal material which has oxidized or degraded over
time due to prolonged exposure to the elements. The coal/coal waste
material is easily distinguished from the non-coal material by marked
differences in color and consistency. Unless otherwise directed by
the PROJECT MANAGER, excavation shall be performed to the lines and
grades shown on the drawings and as described in these specifications
regardless of the nature of materials encountered. No additional
allowance above the price bid will be made on account of any of the
material being wet or frozen, or additional work required to remove
and dispose of coal/coal waste material, large rocks and boulders,
subsurface utilities, and mining related features encountered within
excavated areas. The CONTRACTOR shall assume all responsibility for
deductions and conclusions as to the nature of the materials to be
excavated, the difficulties of making and maintaining the required
excavations, and the presence and extent of coal/coal waste material,
large rocks and boulders, subsurface utilities, and mining related
features within areas to be excavated. The OWNER does not represent
that the excavation can be performed or maintained at the lines
described in these specifications or as shown on the drawings.
-20-
