- 24" vent due west of the Old Carnation Portal. This historical installation is stable
and hard to find. There is no discernible road into this site. The location is mazked
by a single steel post. The top of the hole casing is at ground level and is covered by
a steel plate and old timbers. There is no power to this site. The site has sparse
vegetation and is indiscernible from the surroundings.
- 24" vent south of the access road between the Carnation Mine and the St. Jude mine -
The access road into this site is barely discernible. The vent location has been
marked by a steel post, and the Operator has placed a "Danger" sign at the vent as
there is some sloughing and caving occurring around the vent collar. There is a steel
riser on the hole, but it has no covering. Sparse vegetation is present, but the site is
otherwise stable.
- 3' vent adjacent to drainage immediately east of the St. Jude Mine -This historical
vent is located near the bottom of the drainage that lies east of the St. Jude site. The
vent appears to be a 3' hole, and it has a steel casing extending a few inches above
ground level. The casing is covered by a tin sheet and secured with rocks. The
Operator has place a "Danger" sign at this site. There are a number of old trails and
drill roads around this site, so a specific access road is not noted. The site is well
revegetated and indiscernible from the surrounding terrain.
Sunday Mine.
The Sunday Mine (see Figure 3) includes the Sunday portal, several surface buildings,
working areas, waste dumps, and storage areas. The Sunday Mine was most recently operated
during the period November 1997 through Tune 1999. The Sunday Mine has remained on
"standby' since that time.
The Sunday portal was temporarily closed in November 2002. An old hopper has been
placed in front of the portal entrance, and dirt has been mounded up against the hopper to prevent
intrusion into the mine.
The "Old Sunday Portal" has been permanently closed and covered with fill. The
location of the old portal can be noted by the presence of two juniper trees that were near the
portal and which have been preserved. Figure 3 shows the location of the Old Sunday Portal and
the fence which previously surrounded the portal. The Sunday site was surveyed prior to the
completion of field maintenance work in November 2002; therefore, Figure 3 still shows the
fence around the portal. Minor revisions to Figure 3 will be provided in future Annual Reports
to the Division.
The area to the south and east of the Old Sunday Portal had historically accumulated
mine trash and debris. This entire area has been cleaned up and all debris and trash removed.
The general area has been graded to control erosion and is stable.
The following buildings are present at the Sunday Mine:
- Warehouse/Wash Bay and Auxiliary building; 19' x 19' concrete pad, 44' x 16'
warehouse, 14' x 20' auxiliary building. Buildings are stable but showing signs of
some deterioration.
- West Shop: 36' x 40' concrete pad on west side, 12' concrete pad along south side of
building, sidewalk along east side. Building is in good condition; compressor
presently stored in shop.
4
