- Grease Pit: a concrete subgrade grease pit exists between the West Shop and the East
shop; this pit was covered in November 2002. The site map will be revised in the
future to show the closure of the grease pit. All areas of oily soil around the shop and
grease pit area were aerated several times over recent years, and oily spots were again
aerated in November 2002. Remediation of oil-stained soil by aeration is showing
excellent results. Barrels of used engine oil were removed from the north side of the
West shop in January 2002; the oily soil where these barrels sat was also aerated in
November 2002.
- East Shop: 35' x 13' concrete pad on west side of building, 41' x 35' shop building
with tank stands and a 12' x 26' attached storage area and a 12' x 12' attached storage
area. This building is in poor repair and has generally only been used for materials
storage.
- Office and Dry building: 50' x 36' with 4' sidewalk on two sides. Building has been
vandalized, but is stable.
- Small Items Warehouse: 28' x 12' building adjacent to Office. Old building in quite
poor condition.
- Compressor building: 20' x 16' building that has had door removed to remove
compressor and is now open to the elements.
- Compressor building: 20' x 40' old building with two old compressors still inside.
Building in poor condition and has been extensively damaged and is open to the
elements.
The powerline into the Sunday Mine site belongs to the Operator. There is some
confusion on exactly where the Operator's line begins and connects to San Miguel Power's
service. Plans are underway to meet with San Miguel Power personnel to identify and map
ownership of electrical service structures at the Sunday Mine and all related facilities.
An electric power transformer station is located east of the compressor buildings. Nine
transformers are included in a fenced and locked enclosure. The transformers and the platform
are stable and secure. Six of the transformers are tagged with light blue "PCB-free" stickers and
belong to the Operator. Three transformers are not tagged and these are the property of San
Miguel Power; ownership of these three units will be verified.
A "boneyard" area exists to the west of the warehouse/wash bay. Various old pieces of
equipment and materials are located here. The site is stable and the Operator is selling or
otherwise using equipment from this area as opportunities arise.
Two horizontal fuel storage tanks are located east of the shops on the edge of the east
waste dump. One tank is 8' diameter and 28'4" long and the other tank is 9'7" diameter and 15'
long. Both tanks are empty. The Operator is aware that these cannot be used in the future
without providing spill containment.
A truck scale is located in the center of the mine yard, near an ore dump and loadout
station. A small diameter vent pipe with a riser with a fan on it is located in the center of the
yard in the slope of an interior waste dump. This small diameter vent hole is stable with no
evidence of caving or sloughing. Vent Hole S-2 is located at the south center edge of the mine
yard, but it is included in the Disturbed Area associated with the Roads and Vent Holes (Figure
2).
5
