_ ,
In the loadout structure a 28 ton weigh bin is filled with coal and a smaller
surge bin stores surplus coal from the belt conveyor. When a truck arrives,
the weighed load is ready in the weigh bin. The driver loads his truck,
covers it with a tarp, and hauls the coal to Golden.
Reclamation
Reclamation will normally follow within one spoil ridge of the active pit, or
as close to the active pit as possible but never more than three spoil ridges
from the active pit. Reclamation will proceed as follows:
The dragline spoil piles wi11 be leveled with a dozer, valleys behind these
piles and other low spots will be filled with truck hauled overburden and
leveled to a three foot depth of top-sand with a dozer. Top-sand is a term
applied specifically to the Keenesburg Mine. Topsoil is comprised chiefly of
wind blown sand. Baseline soils information indicates that the top 24 inches
of the soil profile contains approximately 90 percent sand. Top-sanded areas
will be tested for nutrient content. The area will be scarified and mulched
with an average 30 tons per acre of manure. The area will be irrigated during
the first growing season to assist in germination and plant establishment.
-6-
