7-17-1997 3:20AM FROM ENVIRONMENTAL 9708702753 p_3
Drilling. Methods and ui ment: Exploration holes will be established with arubber-tired truck-
mounted air/foam rotary drill. Drilling mud may be employed th the drilling medium. Previous
drilling activities in the immediate azea have not encountered water-bearing formations producing
any appreciable quantities of water from the strata overlying the coal seam of interest. Both the
Twentymile Sandstone and Wadge Overburden have been documented to contain water, however,
neither typically exhibits sufficient head to produce flows at the surface. Drill hole depths
projected for each site are specified on 1997 NOI Table 2. After drilling the holes will be logged
with a standard suite of geophysical data logging instruments. No holes aze planned to be
developed as water wells. Exploration holes will be sealed with cement grout installed with the
drilling rig to within 3' of the surface. Drill cuttings will be used to backfdl the uppermost 3` of
each hole. Tn the event site 97011 is developed, up to six drill holes will be established on [Iris pad
in order to define particular geologic features in the area.
In reference to hole 97001, surface casing will be set 10' below bedrock to ensure drilling fluids
are not lost in the surfacial soils. The surface casing will be grouted inplace and then the hole will
be advanced as per normal methods. The hole is relatively shallow as compared to other holes
drilled at the property and mainly will be advanced through the Marine Shale. Therefore, TCC
does not anticipate encountering any large volume of water. The Wadge Overburden may produce
a minor amount of water that can be contained within the mud pits. The coal will be cored and the
hole gcophysically logged. Upon completion of the coring and logging the hole will be tremie
grouted through and twenty feet above the Wadge Overburden. From that point up it will either be
grouted or backfllled with cuttings to within ten feet of the surface. The interval from ten feet to
within three feet of the surface will be grouted and then the remaining three feet will be backfilled
with soils. The surface casing will be cut off three fee[ below the surface or it may be removed
entirely from the site. The hole will be marked as discussed previously.
Reclamation Plan: Reclamation activities will begin once mud pits are sufficiently dry to allow
regrading of each site to occur. Materials excavated Cor the mud pits will be redistributed over the
site, stockpiled topsoil will be respread, and broadcast seeding will occur over the entire disturbed
area using the following approved pastureland seed mixture from Permit No. C-82-056. Newly
constructed segments of access road will be reclaimed in a similar fashion with stockpiled topsoil
respread and disturbed areas broadcast seeded.
Species
Seeding_Rate (PLS Ibs/acre)
_ Slender Wheatgrass 2.0
' Intermediate Wheatgrass 2.0
Pubescent Wheatgrass 2.0
Desert Wheatgrass 1.5
Orchardgrass 0.5
Timothy 0.5
Regar Meadow Brome 0.5
Lincoln Smooth Brome I.0
Alfalfa 0.25
Cicer Milkvetch 0.25
Total 10.5
I:\dacumentUcarl\97 not
