Mr. Hal Simpson, State Engineer ~ 9/11/06
Dept. of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street ~~
Denver, CO. 80203
Dear Mr. Simpson,
Asa 74 year old Adams County resident, I have lived on Brighton Road
all of my life. In fact, my Great Grandparents homesteaded this farm before
the Civil War. Just south of Brighton there are three creeks that flow into
the Platte River. First Creek, Second Creek and Third Creek. I can vividly
remember playing in these streams 70 years ago.
First Creek crosses Brighton Road at about 130`i'. Ave.
Second Creek crosses Brighton Road at about 140"'. Ave.
Third Creek crosses Brighton Road at about 145a`. Ave.
Brannon Sand and gravel and the City of Aurora have totally destroyed
First Creek. They have built their gravel pit right in the heart of First Creek
and have totally stopped the flow of water in First Creek. About a year ago,
they built an, "Abominable Slurry WaII, without a French Drain", right in
the middle of First Creek. This of course stopped the natural flow of water
in First Creek. In my 74 years, I have probably crossed that creek millions
of times. Last year, for the first time in 74 years, there was no water in the
old creek bed. It is now an eye sore and a dust bowl. It not only stopped
the natural flow of water but has also stopped the flow of the surface water.
Now all of the trees around the old stream are dead and dying. The trees and
lawn in our front yard are now dying, because the water has been shut off.
How is it possible that a Company can totally stop and destroy a natural
running stream? Don't you have some authority to stop this? I would
greatly appreciate it if you could come out here to visit with me, so I can
show you the damage that has been caused by this gravel Co.
Sincerely,
S.H. Bud Scott
13185 Brighton Road
Brighton, CO. 80641
303-659-807b
