2004 Midterm Review <br />In compliance. The applicant and the Division have met their respective responsibilities, <br />Rule 2.04.3 Site Description and Land Use Information <br />In compliance, Descriptions aze provided in the PAP (pages 3-1 through 3-8). The Coal Ridge <br />Number 1 Mine is located primarily on the hilly undeveloped slopes and rolling rangelands of the <br />Grand Hogback (PAP page 3-1). Pre-Permit land uses included cropland, rangland, and <br />undeveloped land, wildlife habitat, and some areas of mining (PAP, page 3-1). <br />Rule 2.04.4 Cultural and Historic Resource Information <br />In compliance. No sites were identified (National Register of Historic Places) within the affected <br />azea (PAP, page 3-9). <br />Rule 2.04.5 General Description of Hydrology and Geology <br />In compliance. Descriptions, information and maps aze included in the PAP. <br />Rule 2.04.6 Geology Description <br />Rule 2.04.6(1) General <br />In compliance. The Pemut azea is located on an upturned edge of the Grand Hogback monocline, <br />at the eastern ledge of the Piceance Basin (PAP page 3-10). The stratigraphy is of Jurassic <br />through Tertiary (PAP page 3-11), with coal to be mined from the Wheeler seam, Bowie <br />Member, Williams Fork Formation, Mesa Verde Group, Upper Cretaceous (PAP Figure 3.3-3). <br />Lower terrace deposits aze Quaternary (PAP page 3-14). <br />Rule 2.04.6(2) Surface Mining <br />In compliance by exception. This mine was an underground mine. <br />Rule 2.04.7 Hydrology Description <br />Rule 2.04.7(1) Ground Water <br />In compliance. Regional and site ground water is described on pages 3-17 through 3-32 of the <br />PAP. Groundwater likely flows towards the Piceance basin from the upturned edge of the Grand <br />Hogback monocline. Alluvial waters likely flow pazallel to adjacent streams and rivers. <br />Rule 2.04.7(2) Surface Water <br />In compliance, The major drainage is the neazby Colorado River, and it is the only drainage <br />located near disturbed surface azeas (PAP page 3-37). <br />10 <br />
