approved replacement of the two standards with the following sinele technical
standard based on a letter from the Nahiral Resources Conservation Service
submitted in technical revision TR-10:
Herbaceous Cover: 42%
Herbaceous Productivity: 900 Ibs/acre
D. The Division approved the following species diversity standard in technical
revision TR-10 based on similarities to other small mine sites where diversity
standards were based on pre-mining data:
Using relative cover or production values for each species, the
reclaimed areas will have at least 3 perennial species with relative
importance equal to or greater than 3%, but with all species
combined not to exceed 75% in relative importance. Any one of the
four species cannot exceed 5~% in relative importance.
E. Based upon a request from Sunland, the Division assisted in developing the seed
mixture presented on page 184 of the permit application. This seed mixture was
used during final reclamation of this mine site and does not have any shrub
species. The landowner has requested that no shrubs be planted to allow for more
growth of desirable grass and forb species for grazing purposes. Due to the limited
areal extent of the area to be reclaimed and the wooded nature of adjacent areas,
the Division has agreed to this request.
XII. Post-mining Laud Use
Sunland Mining Corp. proposes returning these disturbed areas back to the premining
land use of grazing land and wildlife habitat except for Routt County Road 29. Routt
County has requested that this road remain after mine reclamation. The Division approves
the proposed postmining land use of grazing and wildlife habitat. Information pertaining
to land use is presented on pages 12-13.6 and 187.1-188 of the permit application
(4.16.3.).
XIII. Protection of Fish, Wildlife and Related Environmental Values
[nfotTrtation pertaining to fish and wildlife is presented on pages 116-122 of the permit
application.
All wildlife species that have been found within the general area were listed and their
preferred habitats described. Due to the limited areal extent of surface disturbance and
pre-existing nature of this disturbance, the Division has determined that impact to wildlife
and wildlife habitat will be minor. Also, Sunland Mining Corp. is not proposing any
Apex No. 2 Mine, C-81-011 17 Amended December 21, 1998
