General Site/Feature Description (Cont'd.): <br />The mine superintendent's residence (Structure 2) is a 255-story Victorian Queen Anne style <br />wood frame structure that measures 24 by 30 feet, oriented east to west, with a 6•Coot-wide shed <br />addition across the west aide. The residence was constructed in 1903 and served in later years as <br />the mine office. The building is constructed on a eemicoursed shaped native stone and cement <br />mortar foundation. The ground floor of the structure is covered with narrow clapboard aiding with <br />plain endboarda and moat of the windows are one war one double hung wood sash with plain board <br />moldings. The second floor is slightly bell caste and overhangs the first floor slightly; it is covered <br />with shingle siding. It has a steeply pitched composition shingle hip roof with a gabled projection <br />on the north end of the west elevation. The gable end is filled with ahiplap siding and contains a <br />one over one double hung window. The eaves of the roof are supported by decorative wooden <br />brackets. Gabled dormers project through the hip roof on the south and east aides; these are <br />relatively recent additions to the building. An exterior brick chimney is present on the east end of <br />the south elevation. This has flanking gabled roof attachments where it projects through the hip <br />roof The main facade of the structure u on the east aide. The main entry to the building is <br />situated right of center within a recessed porch that is reached by steps from the north. The porch <br />end steps are enclosed by a railing that has turned poste and balusters. The door ie one light over <br />two vertical wood panels and hoe a transom above. To the right of the door, within the porch, ie a <br />peaked two light fixed window. An identical window is on the north end of the elevation to the <br />right of the porch. A projecting bay window is present to the left of the entry porch. Thin contains <br />three one over one double hung wood sash windows with wooden panels below each window. The <br />panels are filled with vertical tongue and groove aiding with that of the central panol N a <br />herringbone pattern that meeting in a central diamond shape. The door and windows on the <br />ground floor of the east elevation all have stepped moldings above. The entire ground Raor level is <br />covered by a shed roof at the second floor level supported by decorative wooden brackets. Two <br />banks of three one war one double hung wood sash windows are present in the second floor level. A <br />rear entry is present on the weal end of the south elevation, within a 9 by 9 foot recessed corner <br />porch. The floor and ceiling of the porch is covered entirely with beaded tongue end grove boards. <br />The door within the porch hoe a transom above, A set of wooden steps rune along the west side of <br />the building leading to a second floor entrance. The wooden steps have been enclosed by a 6•Coot• <br />wide two story high shed addition that covere the entire west aide of the building. The roof of the <br />addition has been constructed so that it fits around elements of the original roof, leaving the <br />origins) roof intact. Another doorway is through the center of the addition beneath the stairs. In <br />front of Structure 2, an old air-powered mining drill is on display. <br />Structures 3 and 4 are small residential cottages that have been added onto and joined on <br />their west aides. Both appear to have measured 22 by 28 Eeet, oriented generally east to west, <br />originally. A series of shed additions on their west sides have extended them an additional 10 feet. <br />Both originally had simple hip roofs through which dormers have been added, making them both <br />155 stories tall The roofs are now covered with sheet metal. The southernmost of the two cottages. <br />Structure 3, is covered with clapboard siding and has a main entrance on the north end of the east <br />elevation. A large picture window is to the left of the door. The structure has a gabled dormer <br />projecting through the center oC the east side of the roof It has shingle siding and a pau of six light <br />fixed wood Bash windows. One war one double hung wood sash windows are on the east and west <br />ends of the north elevation. An exterior chimney, which appears to be an addition, is on the east <br />end oC the south elevation with a one over one window to the left. A single light fixed wood sash <br />window is on the west end of the elevation into the shed extension. The cottage has a rear doorway <br />just left of center through the shed extension on the west side of the building. Structure 3 has been <br />modified considerably from its original construction and is only in fair condition. Structure 4 is also <br />covered with clapboard siding. The original simple hip roof of the structure has been modified into <br />a crossing hip pattern with a small gabled dormer projection to the west near the center of the roof. <br />
