My husband and I live across the Highway on Road H, and are unfortunately
in ear-shot and odor distance of the current operation. We have lived here for just over
a year now, but during the past several weeks have really been bothered by the increased
smell and the noise...especially at night when we should be able to sleep. I question the
hours of operation and am wondering why all, of a sudden, we are experiencing more noise,
dirt and smell.
I am definitely not the only one in this neighborhood who has been bothered by
the long hours of continued beeps, motors and nasty smells and we all are hoping that
something can be done about this, especially the during the hours when everyone should be
able to get a good nights sleep!
I am hoping that something can be done internally within the company, and that
we don't have to take this problem to any outside zoning, or environment protection
committees. I'm sure that there must be some reasonable rules and regulations regarding
the operation of this business. And I am equally sure that you don't want or need to be
dealing with all of my unhappy, sleep deprived neighbors.
We have on several occasions used your gravel products and appreciate the
necessity of the procedures, but there must be some sort of compromise regarding times of
operation and emissions of odors that will make us all happy. I am thanking you in
advance for any attention that you can give to help resolve this growing problem.
Respectfully,
Mary Jane Gosselin
38550 Road H
Mancos, CO. 81328
mjgosselin@gmail.com
Dear Ms. Gosselin,
Attached is an email I received from David King, President & C00 of Sky Ute Sand & Gravel
(SUSG), regarding the current Noland Pit operations and concerns you expressed in your
email. Please understand the sand & gravel industry is extremely competitive and SUSG has
stringent contract commitments that must be met. Also, please be aware that the Noland
Pit is operating within compliance of all applicable federal and state safety and
environmental regulations.
SUSG personnel and I would be willing to meet with you and your spouse to discuss your
specific concerns at length. Please let me know, if you would like to set up a meeting in
the future. I am available to meet with you during the week of July 30th. If this is
something you would like to do, let me know what dates and times would work best for you.
Regards,
Lynn bloomer
Regulatory Compliance Manager
Southern Ute Growth Fund
Safety & Environmental Compliance Management Group
135 Burnett Drive, Ste. 101
Durango, CO 81301
Phone: 970-764-6486
Ce11: 970-799-4052
FAX: 970-247-1173
2
