As you know, there are no lazger trucks than these side dump units used by Ames on this site
at present. The tractor-trailer side dump unit is used for all hauling of Drain Cover Fill and
Low Volume Solution Collection System Fill. If lazger (heavier} equipment were to be used,
CC&V would again require a minimum five-foot thickness until another equipment-specific
reassessment of the thickness were preformed in consultation with the OMLR.
The current reassessment demonstrates that the same protection afforded the upper geomembrane
using five feet of Drain Cover Fill or five feet of Low Volume Solution Collection System Fill
under loaded 773Bs is provided by a three and one-half (3.5) feet roadway under the side dump
tractor trailer units. To develop this reassessment, one of these Ames units was loaded with
material and each axle unit weighed at a commercial scale. The drive axle unit, with eight tires,
was the heaviest. Therefore, its weight was used in the computations.
The Attachment, prepared by Golder Associates, presents the computations for both the 773Bs
and the side dump tractor trailer units.
CC&V would appreciate your review of this information which confirms the appropriateness of
using 3.5 feet of Drain Cover Fill or Low Volume Solution Collection System Fill on the haul
truck roadways based on providing the same, and, therefore, adequate, factor of safety as
achieved with five feet and the larger equipment. We wish to implement this equipment-specific
thickness as soon as possible because it will expedite covering of the liner. Thus, our request
to receive your acknowledgement as rapidly as possible.
Thank you for your assistance.
E.
Environmental Affairs
Attachment: a/s
FILE: CC&VSTIP.006
2
