Broadcast Seeding
Any or all of the following methods for broadcast seeding areas
where drill seeding is not practicable, may be used at the
CONTRACTOR'S option. Regardless of the method used, broadcast seed
shall be covered about one-quarter (1/4) to one-half (1/2) inch deep
by flexible-tine harrowing or a similar method. If seed is
broadcast, either a pneumatic seeder, a hydraulic seeder, or a hand
or machine operated seeder capable of uniform application of
prescribed quantities shall be used. Hydroseeding, if employed,
shall be done prior to hydromulching, in a separate operation.
Pneumatic Seeding
All materials shall be applied by blower-type equipment using air
pressure and adjustable disseminating device whereby dry
fertilizer and dry seed shall be applied in prescribed quantities
uniformly onto the specified area.
Machine or Hand-Operated Spreader
Seeding shall be performed using hand operated or machine
spreaders or seeders whereby dry seed shall be applied in
prescribed quantities uniformly on specified areas.
Mulching and Erosion Control Blankets
All disturbed areas shall be mulched following seeding. Mulch shall
be applied not later than 24 hours after seeding. Mulching shall
not be done when wind velocity exceeds fifteen miles per hour. The
interseeded areas do not need to be mulched.
Mulching procedures specified below shall be applied to seeded areas
according to their designation by slope steepness. Two slope types
are identified:
1. Less than approximately 33$.
2. Greater than 33$.
On slopes less than approximately 33$, any one of two mulching
procedures shall be used:
1. Hay or straw mulch, crimped
2. Hydromulch with tackifier
On slopes greater than approximately 33~ and one of three mulching
procedures shall be used:
1. Hay or straw mulch with non-asphalt tackifier
2. Hay or straw mulch with netting
3. Hydromulch with tackifier.
-20-
