ry Y
•,J
Memo to Mike Long - 2 - October 20, 1989
8. Revegetation must be accomplished.
9. Some amount of maintenance will be required as evidenced by the gullys
which have appeared in the 3H:1V slopes on the northwest side of the
initial cut spoil pile.
Cost for this reclamation would vary significantly depending on many factors
including:
1. Final slopes (2H:1Y vs. 3H:1Y).
2. Engineering practices needed to assure stability of slopes steeper than
3H:1V (terraces, benches, contour furrows, etc.).
3. Availability of material above the east pit's east highwall for use as
back fill and/or final cover material.
4. The quality of the spoil material in overburden stockpiles.
The final two cost estimates are based on the following assumptions:
1. All necessary back fill material can be obtained from spoil piles on
center ridge and the northern nose of center ridge, and overburden
stockpile number two (near where the East Pit daylights). Cost of
transporting and placing this material would be about 70 cents per
compacted cubic yard.
2. The east highwall at the East Pit cannot be pushed down.
3, Final slopes are either 3H:1V or 2H:1V.
4, Approximately 6 inches of cover material is applied.
5, Standard reclamation practices of fertilization, seedbed preparation,
seeding, and mulching are carried out.
If 3H:1V slopes are used:
1, Approximately 750,000 cubic yards must be moved at a cost of E525,000.00.
`~ ~fo~~5~90
2, Approximately 37,900 cubic yards of topsoil must be moved to cover
approximately 47 acres at a cost of 526,500.00.
3. Approximately 47 acres must be revegetated at a cost of E28,200.00
(5600/acre).
4. Stream channel reconstruction costs would be approximately E35,000.00
(see Feb. 10, 1987 memo by Jeff Deckler).
5. Total cost would be approximately b615,000,00.
