XIV. Operation Description - Rules 2.05.2, 2.05.3(1 ), 2.05.3(2) and 4.01.1
There has been no change in the main pit operations plan since the 1987
permit renewal.
As shown on revised Map 23, Mine Plan, mining and reclamation
activities on the Danforth I Lease in Section 11 are within the current
dune Permit Boundary, Operations will include both a minor eastern
extension of the existing Colowyo multiple Seam Open Pit to recover
coal from the boundary between Section 10 in Coal Lease D-034365 and
Section 11 in Coal Lease C-29224, and a single seam dragline operation
in Section 11 to mine the "X" seam.
Section 11 will have amine life of approximately three years in the
single seam dragline operation and four to five years of boundary coal
in the existing open pit. Total recoverable coal production from
Section 11 is estimated at 3.6 mm tons. Reclamation will
contemporaneously follow the single seam operation approximately one
year behind mining. The extension of the multiple seam open pit will
be reclaimed in the same fashion as the current multiple seam operation.
Topsoil Removal
The first step in the operations plan fo
outlined in Section 2.05.3 of the Permit
Handling Map (Map 28) has been revised to
operations plan for topsoil handling.
Drilling and Blasting
r Section 11 is topsoil removal as
Renewal Application. Both
truck/shovel and dragline stripping methods will be utilized for overburden
removal. Truck/shovel methods will De used predominately to open the dragline
cuts, although truck/shovel methods may be employed from time-to-time to
pre-strip high cover areas or assist in pad/ramp operations. Initial cut
volumes taken by truck/shovel will be hauled to the existing open pit dump
areas. Truck/shovel advances following the initial cuts will dump in the
existing open pit dump area or employ continuous haul back to backfill the
initial cuts. The dragline cuts will be oriented approximately north-south,
generally along both the geologic structure and the topographic contour.
-4-
