Descriotion of the Environment The original findings document contains a summary description of the mine site environment. The original application contained a description of the Section 11 environment and there are no changes needed in the original findings document. Description of the Operations and Reclamation Plan The operations description in the original Findings document remains generally accurate. That description is herein updated to describe the proposed mining in Section 11. In the first permit term a total of 1426 acres of the permit area were disturbed by the facilities, pit, and overburden fill, Through 1987, 276 acres have been reclaimed. Colowyo to date has reQUested and obtained Phase I and Phase II bond release on 50,0 and 176.4 acres of land respectively, It is estimated that approximately 307 acres will be disturbed during the current permit term. During 1987, the mine produced approximately 3 million tons of coal, estimated production for 1988 is approximately 4 million tons. Maximum permitted production is 4.5 million tons per year. The Danforth I Lease in Section 11 is within the current Mine Permit Boundary. Operations will include both a minor eastern extension of the existing Colowyo Multiple Seam Open Pit to recover coal from the boundary between Section 10 in Coal Lease D-034365 and Section 11 in Coal Lease C-29224, and a single seam dragline operation in Section 11. Section 11 will have amine life of approximately three years in the single seam dragline operation and four to five years of boundary coal in the existing open pit. Total recoverable coal production from Section 11 is estimated at 3.6 mm tons, Reclamation will contemporaneously follow the single seam operation approximately one year behind mining. The eastern extension of the multiple seam open pit will be reclaimed in the same fashion as the remainder of the multiple seam pit. The total additional disturbed area of the Section 11 operation will be ]02 acres.
