Reference Area value when both annual and perennial cover values are combined. However, it passes
when only perennial cover is compared.
The South Fan -East area currently passes three of the four diversity standards. There is sufficient
cover of perennial forbs or sub-shrubs and perennial cool-season grasses to pass the required minimum
values, and there are no planted species with greater than 70% relative cover. However, the present
relative cover of perennial warm-season grasses (0%) is insufficient to pass the required minimum value
(2,0%).
3.16 South Fan -West Area
Ground cover of the South Fan -West area consisted of 27.2% live vegetation, 9.0% rock, 13,1%
litter, and bare soil exposure of 50.7%. Perennial cover across the unit averaged 20.0% (up from 6,0%
in 2004) with annual and biennial cover averaging 7.2% (up from 0.2% in 2004). Dominant taxa were
shadscale, cheatgrass, founving saltbush, and Gardner saltbush (Atrip/exgardnen) with 9.9°k, 7.1°~,
2.6%, and 2.0% average cover, respectively. This unit fails the revegetation success criterion of 90% of
the Shadscale Reference Area value when both annual and perennial cover values are combined.
However, it passes when only perennial cover is compared.
The South Fan -West area currently passes all four diversity standards. The present relative cover
of perennial warm-season grasses, perennial forbs or sub-shrubs and perennial cool-season grasses is
sufficient to pass the required minimum values, and there are no planted species with greater than 70%
relative cover.
3,17 Shadswle Reference Area
The Shadsrale Reference Area is located near the Roadside South Portal on the west-facing slope
(see Map 1). Ground cover in this area consisted of 53.6% live vegetation, 29.2% rock, 14.2% litter,
and bare soil exposure of 3.1% (Tables 2 and 21). Perennial cover across the unit averaged 7.4% {down
from 8.9% in 2001) with annual and biennial cover averaging 46.2% (up from 30.2% in 2001). The
dominant taxa were cheatgrass, galleta (P/eu2phisjamesig, and shadscale with 46.1%, 3.7%, and 1.2%
average cover, respectively.
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATES, INC.
