3.11 Roadside RD
Ground cover of the Roadside RDA consisted of 57.6% live vegetation, 2.1% rock, 10,5% litter, and
bare soil exposure of 29.8%. Perennial cover across the unit averaged 29.5% with annual and biennial
cover averaging 28.1%. Dominant taxa were cheatgrass, forage kochia, and greasewood with 26.9%,
21.4%, and 4,8% average cover, respectively. This unit passes the revegetation success criterion of
90% of the Shadscale Reference Area value when both annual and perennial cover values are combined.
It also passes when only perennial cover is compared.
The Roadside RDA currently passes three of the four diversity standards. There is sufficient cover of
perennial fortis or sub-shrubs and perennial cool-season grasses to pass the required minimum values,
and there are no planted species with greater than 70% relative cover. However, the present relative
cover of perennial warm-season grasses (0%) is insufficient to pass the required minimum value (2.0%).
3.12 Roadside South Portal Uooer Diversion Ditch
Ground cover of the Roadside South Portal Upper Diversion Ditch consisted of 42.6% live
vegetation, 11.8% rock, 16.6% litter, and bare soil exposure of 29.0%. Perennial cover across the unit
averaged 5.3% with annual and biennial cover averaging 37.3%. Dominant taxa were cheatgrass,
filaree (Erodium dcutarium), forage kochia, and Palmer penstemon with 32.1%, 4.2%, 2.0%, and 1.8%
average cover, respectively. This unit fails the revegetation success criterion of 90% of the Shadswle
Reference Area value when both annual and perennial cover values are combined.
