The 2 West Portal -East area currently passes all four diversity standards. The present relative
cover of perennial warm-season grasses, perennial forbs or sub-shrubs and perennial cool-season
grasses is sufficient to pass the required minimum values, and there are no planted species with greater
than 70% relative cover.
3.9 2 West Portal -West
Ground cover of 2 West Portal -West area consisted of 33.8% live vegetation, 10.6% rock, 6.7%
litter, and bare soil exposure of 48.9%. Perennial cover across the unit averaged 22.7% (up from 9.6%
in 2004) with annual and biennial cover averaging 11.1% (down from 16.2% in 2004). Dominant taxa
were cheatgrass, Russian wildrye, founving saltbush, shadscale, and greasewood with 9.2%, 7.9%,
7.7%, 3.1°k, and 1.8% average cover, respectively. This unit faits the revegetation success criterion of
90% of the Shadscale Reference Area value when both annual and perennial cover values are combined.
However, it passes when only perennial cover is compared.
The 2 West Portal -West area currently passes all four diversity standards. Perennial cover across the unit averaged 7.7% with
annual and biennial cover averaging 25.9%. Dominant taxa were cheatgrass, forage kochia, and
shadscale with 24.5%, 2.1%, and 1.7% average cover, respectively. This unit fails the revegetation
success criterion of 90% of the Shadscale Reference Area value when both annual and perennial cover
values are combined. However, it passes when only perennial cover is compared.
The Roadside Refuse Borrow Area currently passes three of the four diversity standards. There is
sufficient cover of perennial forbs or sub-shrubs and perennial cool-season grasses to pass the required
minimum values, and there are no planted species with greater than 70% relative cover. However, the
present relative cover of perennial warm-season grasses (0.60%) is insufficient to pass the required
minimum value (2.0%).
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATES, INC.
