spur off of the main haul road at the base of the refuse pile that becomes a light use road. This light
use road travels along the east side of the refuse pile to the Pond 3 area then turns west and travels
along the north side of the refuse pile, past Pond 4, to a gate at the northwest corner of the refuse pile.
The landowners have requested that these roads be left as permanent to support the post-mining land-
use of wildlife habitat and rangeland. The Division approved these roads as permanent with the
approval of Minor Revision 46 on 1 October 2002.
The Southfield Mine also has a section of light-use road, approximately 1.2 miles long, which travels
from the upper (southeast) edge of the reclaimed GEC East Pit to the reclaimed Southfield Mine south
fan azea. This road was also an existing road and is used to access a private residence that is close to
the reclaimed fan. This road has been permitted as permanent. It should be noted that the portion of
the road from the GEC gate to the southeast edge of the reclaimed East Pit is not part of the Southfield
Permit.
There aze two roads on the north portion of the Southfield Mine permit azea on the Corley Mountain
Ranch that were addressed in The Corley Company's 12 November 20021etter and during the 13
November inspection. The first road is a small portion of a light use road that accessed the Corley
Mine Well that was used for processing plant water. EFCI has reclaimed this road section. The second
road is an existing ranch road used to access monitoring well MW-65. This road is used by EFCI in an
agreement with the landowner and will be reclaimed when the monitoring well is no longer needed.
The inclusion of these roads in the permit and reclamation plan was approved with Minor Revision 47
-approved on 14 February 2003.
All other roads that were a part of the Southfield Mine were removed during reclamation. The
Division finds that the roads have been backfilled and graded, incorporating appropriate drainage
control, as required by the approved reclamation plan.
Sealing of Underground Mine Openings -Portals, Fans, Vent Shafts and Monitoring Wells
There were five portal openings at the facilities azea of the Southfield Mine.
