- 9.3 SURROUNDING LAND USES
Present uses of lands in the vicintiy of the mine site are
industrial (small mines), residential and commercial (Berth.oud Falls,
Colorado), and recreation. Present uses of lands in the vicinity of
the mill site are agriculture (ranching), forestry, recreation, and
summer residences.
Open forest is compatible with both present and future land
uses of the areas and respective county land use plans.
9.4 GRADING
Maitimum slopes of disturbed areas of the project .are approxi-
mately 1.6:1. Notable exceptions where slopes exceed this .ratio are
vertical cuts through solid rock such as the south side of the mine
site and portions of the surface railroad cut. Final gradi:~g of
-~
Ryan's Gravel Pit and Storage (10), RR Gravel Pit (11), and Topsoil
J
Stockpiles (21) will provide slopes of approximately 3:1. (Parentheti-
cal numbers refer to specific disturbed sites as coded on the map,
Appendix A and correlated to the timetable, Table 5.1.)
IIltimate grading of the remainder of the sites will be
minimal. Cut and fill construction on the steep terrain makes it
impractical to consider returning the land to its original contours.
Sufficient grading will be done on each disturbed site to ps-ovide
proper drainage. The map (Appendix A) shows final contours.
9.5 SEEDING RATE
Unless otherwise specified, the seed mixture (Sect:ion 8.1)
is broadcast at 40 pounds per acre
Weighted calculations indicate
9-2
