.~
,' S E c 1 i pN g, RECLAMATION PT.AN

9.1 RECLAMATION GOALS
The goal of reclamation at the Henderson Project is to
stabilize and revegetate to stop and prevent continued ecological
degradation of disturbed sites due to erosion (stabilization faction
Of reclamation) and initiate a process of natural continuous ecologi-
cal Improvement on each site (revegetation faction). When possible,
reclamation has been progressing since development began.
The general goal from a land use standpoint is t~~ reclaim to
"open forest." Open forest was selected because it is com.,?atible with
surrounding areas and because of the high biological diversity preva-
lent throughout a rather dense, Savanna type ecosystem. For example,
prior to deposition, the tailing area was gartially meadow.
Reclamation of all areas will be to open forest sinless
specifically stated otherwise.
4.2 DEFINITION OF OPEN FOREST
Revegetation to "open forest "means: a) establi::hing a
diverse herbaceous growth of 608 to 908 cover (moderate to dense), b)
planting a mixture of evergreen seedlings at an average rage of 300
•per acre with an expected survival rate of 758, and c) planting a
mixture of transplants (or purchased plants) at an average rate of 90
per acre of site specific native species (mostly shrubs), again with
an expected survival rate of 758.
9-1
