6. Maintenance fertilize the first, third and fifth years.
It would be desirable to "landscape" the flat surface
somewhat by constructing "hills" similar to those on the Uxad Tailing
ponds. However, at Henderson, it is not anticipated there will be any
material suitable for such a purpose.
Surface stability is a significant problem to be overcome
when revegetating tailing. It is expected that the area near the
crest of the tailing dam will be stable enough to support m.en and
equipment for revegetation within one year of shutdown. Therefore,
revegetation will commence at the dam crest and work toward the slimes
areas near the ultimate decant towers on a yearly basis as the tailing
dewaters and becomes stable enough to support equipment. The entire
tailing area will be revegetated in this manner, but it is expected
that six years might not be sufficient time for the slimes areas to
become stable enough to support heavy equipment during the summer.
The slimes areas surrounding the decant towers will therefore probably
have to be worked during the winter months when the surface is frozen~~~.}}
Vegetation establishment will hasten overall stability by the removal 1
of water via evapotranspiration. ,/"n'
An average of 220 acres per year will be revegetated in this
manner, completing the job in the year 2012. It is expected that the
vegetation will be self-sustaining within 5 years of establishment;
thus, the year 2017 is again the estimated date of final bond release.
A comprehensive dust control program will be implemented on
all possible unrevegetated portions of the tailing pond throughout the
reclamation process. Dust control technology is certain to improve in
9-15
