T11e artifacts on this site are being exposed in the disturbed road
cut and the soils are fairly thick which indicate that subsurface materials may be present,
It is otlr opinion that SDT1325, the rocksl:~lter assoctazed with Reuben Dove, is not
eligible to the National Register under criterion b or d. Rtleben Dove, while certainly a
character of local lore, does not appear to have made significant contributions to local
history. The shelter has been stripped of anything associated with Mr. Dove and
therefore will not yield information on the life ways of a local hermit in the early 1900's.
Because of the local lore associated with the siu, we would support the preservation of
the rockshe(ter in.memor}• ofMr, Dove.
It is our understanding that no surface disturbance will affect these sins, therefore, we
concur with the iifl historic properties determination.
If we may be of further assistance please contact Jim Green at 303-666-4674.
Sincerely,
~~ ~ ~
Georglanna Conttguglia
State Historic Preserva[ion Officer
•
v
