Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Dudash:
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reviewed your October 23, 2000, letter regazding Bowie
Number. 2 Coal Mine's Permit Revision Application Number 4 (PR-4) for the Iron Point Tract.
The permit revision would incorporate 1,751 acres into the existing permit azea. The Iron Point
Tract is located in T. 13 S., R. 91 W., Delta County, Colorado.
• The Service does not believe that any threatened or endangered terrestrial species would be
impacted by the project. In December 1999, the Service issued a biological opinion for water
depletion impacts by Bowie Number I and 2 Mines for production up to 5 million tons ofcoal
per yeaz and 236.6 acre-feet of water depletion per year (GJ-6-CO-99-F-034). The PR-4 would
continue this production rate and would not increase the depletion. Consequently, there is no
need for further consultation as a result of PR-4.
If the Service can be of further assistance, please contact Terry Ireland at the letterhead address or
(970) 243-2778.
Sincerely,
~.~
Allan R.
