18 July 1984
Page 3
East Pit Plan•1. ----
This plan places approximately 273,000 cu. yds. in the East pit to eleminate
any gepmorphological remnants on the eastern wall of the East pit.
Approximately 90,000 cu. yds. would be removed from OS N2 to initate filling,
and to prepare a scraper haul road into the northern end of the pit. As in the
proce dure for the West pit, stairstep lifts would be constructed from the east
wall working stepwise downward to the west. Since the east wall is 100 ft. above
the southern floor of the East pit, it will require lengthy adverse l0Y and 12%
grades to bring fill material up to the top of the east walls.
Most of the west wall of the East pit is of a lesser slope than 2:1, so that.
roads and terraces built to facilitate scrapers coming from OS #2 will be easy
to finish grade.
It is estimated it would take more than 7; years to complete this plan.
East Pit Plan 2. ----
This plan places approximately 128,000 cu. yds. in the East pit. The same
methods are used as in Plan 1, however the adverse grades and yardages are
approximately half those in Plan 1.
This plan gives a minimum of 20 ft. of cover over the topmost teal seam, and
would leave exposed a portion of the Verdos sandstone in places and would leave
remnants the Verdos conglomeratic colluvum on the east wall of the pit. These
remnants are stable and would blend in with the surrounding terrain visually.
It is estimated this plan would be complete in some three years, weather per-
mitting.
Topsoil replacement would come from topsoil stockpiles 2 and 3. It is felt
most of topsoil stockpile 1 will be used in the West pit and the nose of OS ~2.
Magpie Diversion and Channel -------
Sedimentation pond "D" at the north end of the West pit would be filled at the
last stages of the reclamation of the West pit, and its dewatering equipment
and gates removed and the dike eliminated between pond "D" and the Magpie Div-
ersion.
The small drainage from the remains of the West pit and the confluence of the
unnamed drainage to the west of the West pit would meet some 500 ft. upstream
of the Magpie diversion. This drainage is dry most of the year and runs only
during storms and during the spring runoff periods.
Attention is directed to Attachments D, E, F, and L of the approved reclamation
plan in Volume 1. These discuss graded channel bottoms, restored channel bottoms
