Summary <br />The Review Process <br />Twin Pines Coal l;ompany, Inc. submitted an application to mine coal at the <br />Twin Pines No. 2 Mine on January 3, 1983. Subsequently, the company submitted <br />a Request of Transfer of Coal Permit and Succession of Operators on <br />January 24, 1984, naming Twin Pines Investment Limited Partnership as the <br />successor operator. The Division issued Permit C-058-83 to Twin Pines <br />Investment Limited Partnership on December 17, 1984. <br />The Division issued its Mid-Term Review Report on July 14, 1987. Several <br />pages of the Permit Application Package were revised in response to this <br />review. These r~avisions were to clarify issues related to the reclamation <br />plan. <br />The Division notified the permittee of the need to renew its permit on <br />March 13, 1989, pursuant to Rule 2.08.5. The permit renewal application was <br />received on June 6, 1989. This application was called complete by the <br />Division on June 13, 1989 and an adequacy review was sent to the permittee on <br />August 9, 1989. The permittee responded to the issues raised in the adequacy <br />review on September 11, 1989. Additional adequacy issues were resolved on <br />February 8, 1990. <br />Division review of the Twin Pines No. 2 Mine's operation has included the <br />original permit application review, the mid-term review and the renewal <br />application review. The Division's file C-83-058 contains additional <br />information about the operation and these reviews. <br />Descri tion of the Environment <br />The original Findings Document contains a description of the mine site <br />environment. In this section of the original Findings Document, the access <br />road is included within the mine's permit area. Technical Revision 02 <br />(approved August 28, 1987) removed the access road (approximately 3.5 acres) <br />from the permit area. <br />With this change, the description in the original Findings Document is hereby <br />incorporated into this Findings Document. <br />-3- <br /> <br />
