Water Management at San Luis
• Three phases of water management
- Phase I consists of controlling flow from the West Pit and lowering the
water level in the West Pit approximately 15 feet
• Water removed by combination of enhanced evaporation (summer 1999),
nanofiltration (winter of 1999), and agricultural use (pending)
• Pumping from the backfill and window area.
- Phase II consists of using the groundwater from the West Pit to
supplement agricultural water at the Rocky Mountain Farms.
- Phase III would be based on the results obtained from conducting apilot-
scale test of passive biological treatment to reduce sulfate, produce
alkalinity, and precipitate metal sulfide compounds. Additionally,
manganese may be treated using a passive aerobic treatment systems
