AppendirA-Vegetation Sampling for 2003
TABLE A-2
GOLDEN EAGLE MINE
0.1 SQUARE-METER PRODUCTION PLOTS
SUMMARY OF 2005 SAMPLE ADEQUACY CALCULATIONS
Mean Field Actual Computed
"Wet" Weight Standard Sample Adequate
Area (grams)- Deviation Size Sample Size
AVF Reference Area 52.53 5.96 15* 2.33
AVF Reclaimed Area 48.62 927 15* 6.58
Rangeland Reference Area 8.75 7.99 90 138.78
Rangeland Reclaimed Area 33.77 46.71 90 318.91
* 15 transits; each [ransect value determined by averaging the six quadrats collected along each transit.
Evaluation of total herbaceous vegetation production for the purpose of success determination is based on
the resulting "dry" weights of clipped vegetation. The sample mean for all herbaceous production on the
AVF Reclaimed Area (20.46 grams) represents 90.29 percent of the sampled value on We AVF Reference
Area (22.66 grams). When all undesirable species (annual grasses and forbs, biennial forbs, and
undesirable perennial forbs) aze removed from the analysis, the sample mean for herbaceous production
on the AVF Reclaimed Area (18.77 grams) represents 90.76 percent of the sampled value on the AVF
Reference Area (20.68 grams). The herbaceous production density on the AVF Reclaimed Area bazely
excetxis the 90 percent standard when compared with the AVF Reference Area. Refer to Tables A-5 and
A-7 for a summarization of the data collected on the AVF sampling units.
The sample mean for all herbaceous vegetation production on the Rangeland Reclaimed Area (15.42
grams) easily exceeds the sampled value on the Rangeland Reference Area (4.00 grams). When all
undesirable species (annual grasses and forbs, biennial forbs, and undesirable perennial forbs) aze
removed from the analysis, the sample mean for herbaceous production on the Rangeland Reclaimed
Area (8.97 grams) represents more than double the sampled value on the Rangeland Reference Area (3.49
grams). The herbaceous production density on the Rangeland Reclaimed Area easily exceeds the 90
percent standazd when compared with the Rangeland Reference Area. Refer to Tables A-9 and A-I1 for a
summary of the data collected on the Rangeland sampling units.
Density calculations were also based on the resulting total "drys' weights. The mean production density
standard for the AVF Reclaimed Area during the yeaz 2005 sampling event, established on the AVF
Reference Area, is 2,017.9 lbs/acre. The estimated production density on the AVF Reclaimed Area is
1,821.9 lbs/acre, or 902 percent of the production density estimated on the AVF Reference Area. The
estimated production density on the AVF Reclaimed Area barely exceeds the 90 percent standard required
when compazed with the AVF Reference Area data.
The mean production density standard for the Rangeland Reclaimed Area during the year 2005 sampling
event, established on the Rangeland Reference Area, is 356.2 ]bs/acre. The estimated production density
on the Rangeland Reclaimed Area is 1,373.2 lbs/acre. The estimated production density on the Rangeland
Reclaimed Area easily exceeds the 90 percent standard required when compared with the Rangeland
Reference Area data.
Species Diversity - 2005
The species diversity standazd for the Rangeland Reclaimed Areas, as stated in the permit, is the
establishment of two cool-season grasses, two warm-season grasses, and one perennial forb, each with a
292 - Goldeo Eagle Phase Ill (10.07.05) A-$
