Draft Copy
STIPULATION ~5 - WITHIN 90 DAYS AFTER PERMIT ISSUANCE, THE PERMITEE MUST
PROVIDE THE DIVISION WITH AN ACCEPTABLE SPECIES DIVERSITY SUCCESS STANDARD FOR
THE REVEGETATED AREAS OF THE MINE.
The following table lists the species diversity and equitability recorded
in the five different types of vegetation growths at the mine site. Snowmass
proposes to use the numbers for species diversity success criteria for reveg-
etated areas of the mine site. These numbers will be determined by the same
method used to gather the baseline vegetation data for the mine (Appendix 3-V,
Volume 11).
Species
Diversity Equitability
Riparian Woodland 26.36 1.17
Mountain Shrubland - Dry Phase 12.75 0.68
Mountain Shrubland - Moist Phase 17.00 0.60
Aspen Forest 18.71 0.52
Mixed Coniferous Forest 17.82 0.78
The formulas that will be used for species diversity and equitability are:
Species Diversity = S /log N
Where "S" equals number of species in a sample and "N" equals the total
number of individuals (transects) in a sample.
Equitability = - ( N) log (N )
Where "ni" equals the cover value for each species encountered in a com-
munity and "N" equals the total vegetation cover in a community.
