' Pikeview Quarry Environmental Assessment
Page 21
iii) The project will comply with applicable Federal and State water quality laws and
regulations.
iv) Operations and conditions in [he gravel pit azea will have minimal impact on the
wildlife. This azea is not known to be used exclusively for activities critical to the
life cycles of wildlife that require special consideration.
v) Revegetation of the disturbed areas will aim at the reestablishment, over time, of the
' conditions observed in the naturally occurring forest community of the surrounding
area.
vi) The application of fertilizer is discouraged during revegetation. In general,
fertilization would only optimize the enviromnent for weed growth which is not
desirable. Fertilization would also greatly reduce the rate of vegetational
development in secondary succession.
vii) Nursery stock planting should be configured in irregulaz and more or less random
patterns for habitat and aesthetic purposes.
viii) Upon the establishment and maturation of naturally occurring vegetation, the habitat
will be managed as it was before the proposed activity was begun.
'
ix) Access roads will be maintained until completion of mining activities and then
reclaimed along with adjacent land.
ll b
i
ibl
fr
h
x) e v
s
om t
e access
A sign will be posted at the entrance of the quarry and wi
e
road, showing the operator's name; a statement that a permit has been issued for the
operation by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Boazd; and the permit number.
xi) The boundaries of the permitted land will be clearly delineated by placement of
' monuments or other mazkers.
B -Performance Standards for National Forest System Lands

i) After trees are harvested, the remaining shrubs, forbs and tree limbs along with
grasses will be removed and stockpiled sepazately from the topsoil.
ii) Soils stripped in summer and stockpiled for a period expected to be greater than one
growing season will be seeded with slender wheatgrass, a short-lived native species.
' iii) Topsoil and subsoil removed from the National Forest System lands during the
layback operation would be stockpiled sepazately along the western boundary of the
layback area, after layback is initiated. These stockpiles will remain on National
Forest System lands no longer than 3 yeazs and topsoil will be reapplied to the
benched areas as soon as mining and regrading aze complete (which will be less than
3 yeazs).
Hydrosphere Resourcc Consultants, 1002 Walnut Street Suite 200, Boulder, CO 80302
