Pikeview Quarry Environmental Assessment Page 20 '
d) Stunpling Date
Sampling will be conducted in spring and summer (August) of each year for a period '
of 5 years :[fret seeding and planting is complete or after 5 years until performance standards
are attained. Sampling should occur at the same time each year to maximize comparability
between data sets. '
e) Photographic Documentation
A color photograph oriented along the transect from the origin will be taken at each
site. Color copies of these photographs will be attached to each annual report.
f) Weed Monitoring '
A certain amount of weed invasion is normal following revegetation, especially on
and sites. Weeds will lazgely disappeaz after 2 to 3 years. Noxious weeds aze extremely
competitive and can effectively dominate a site. Weed monitoring in revegetated areas will
proceed monthly from April through September for the duration of mining and for a period '
of 5 years after reclamation has begun on any particular site. Weed monitoring will also
occur in the National Forest System land next to the disturbed azeas. These lands will serve
as a reference for the characteristics of natural vegetation in the area.
During such monitoring, species included on the current State of Colorado lists of
prohibited and restricted noxious weeds puesuant to Title 35 Article 5.5 Section 115 C.R.S. '
will be sought. If found, their locations will be noted for future scrutiny, they will be
located by GPS (Global Positioning System), if possible, and, if feasible, removed at that
time. If viable seeds are present, any removed plants will be placed in closed plastic bags
and transported offsite for disposal.
Performance Standards
The reclamation plan will consider the following performance standards and guidelines.
These are grouped into the following categories: A) those applying in general to National
Forest Sysb:m and private lands; B) those applying to National Forest System lands; and C) '
those guidelines applying to private lands.
A -General Perfotmance Standards ,
i) This operation will not appreciably disturb water quality or the prevailing hydrologic
balance of affected land and the surrounding azea. Runoff from the slopes to be '
mined will follow the historical ravines west of the layback area, and continue
downwazd across the reclaimed slopes. Localized erosion will be controlled by the
granite crests of the underlying benches. Drainage diversion ditches aze not required '
as t}te drainage basins above the reclaimed areas aze small.
ii) The project will comply with applicable Colorado water laws and regulations '
regazding injury to existing water rights.
Hydrosphere Resource Consultants, 1002 Walnut Sueet Sure 200, Boulder, CO 80302 '
